Mussoorie A better known as the Queen of hills in Uttarakhand
Mussoorie is the splendid hill station situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, North India. The immense climate of Mussoorie every year attracts several tourists to feel it. It’s just 35 km away from the Dehradun district, and the nearest Dehradun railway station is also in Dehradun itself. I have given the complete details related to how to plan a Mussoorie trip. Which will help you to make an itinerary?
Mussoorie Travel Story
I live in New Delhi and love to travel on the weekend to explore the tourist places. Mussoorie is also one of the weekend getaways from Delhi, India, and it’s just 280 km from Delhi by the road.
Highway journey Delhi to Mussoorie
I started my journey from Delhi at 04:00 am in the morning with my friends.

The route we had followed From Delhi to Mussoorie
Delhi—-Muradnagar—-Muzzaffar Naggar —-Deoband —–Dehradun —- Mussoorie
Stopover at Cheetal Grand Restaurant in Khatauli
After 3 hours’ drive, we had stopped our vehicle at the Cheetal Restaurant for the light breakfast. It is around 90 km from Delhi to Cheetal grand restaurant in khatauli.
Garden of Cheetal Grand Restaurant
Cheetal grand restaurant is a decent stopover between Delhi to Mussoorie’s journey. The restaurant is not only relaxing inside the restaurant. But you can also enjoy the exterior garden area.
What can you eat at the restaurant?
The cheetal grand is quite famous among tourists and local people. Here you can enjoy the south Indian, Chinese, continental and Italian food and the service is also impressive.
Robbers cave en route to Mussoorie
After the relaxation at Cheetal Grand, we started to drive to Mussoorie, and I suggested to friends to take one more halt in Dehradun at Robbers cave. It’s a small picnic and a tourist spot in Dehradun city. Where not only local people come to visit but also other state visitors take a look at that place.
Why Robbers cave-in Dehradun?
The place is well known as the Guchhupani by the locals of Dehradun, and the cave received the name robber cave after a popular dacoit Rober in Dehradun.
Rumours in local people of Mussoorie
There is a rumour among the local people that Rober seldom uses this cave for hiding himself from the police, and some people also have believed that it is house lord shiva. I don’t know how much it’s true? If you know something else about it, please let me know in the below comment section.
Reached Dehradun and Clicked pictures
We reached Dehradun and enjoyed the cave and clicked some beautiful pictures of the cave and mountains with the river.
Visiting hours:- 07:00 Am to 06:00 Pm
Entry Ticket:- 25 INR for per person
Food Place:- Not Hygiene local Hawker
Heading towards Queen of Hills
Now finally, we had started the drive to Mussoorie, the queen of hills. It was just 35 km from the Robbers cave, and really that moment can’t be forgotten. Because we had planned our trip in July month and that is the monsoon period in every north India.
Maggi Point in Mussoorie with Rain
I had travelled to Mussoorie earlier three times on this journey. But I never enjoyed the rain. But hearing about it from several people who had visited before me. It was about a 35 km hillside drive from Dehradun to Mussoorie, and I could not stop myself from getting off from the car and enjoying the hill station monsoon weather.
Shower of the rain and Greenery
We had stopped the car on the Maggi point, and we had just travelled 15 km for the Mussoorie from Dehradun. I was feeling like heaven on the earth when I saw below from the ridge. Because everything was appearing more gorgeous because of the shower of rain and greenery.
Clouds come and go on the hills
I was swamped capturing the glamorous nature of my eyes and forgot to take a portrait in my camera, and when I opened the shutter of the camera everywhere, visibility was coming down because of clouds. Have a look at the image on my Instagram account and if you like it never forget to follow me.
Finally Reaching to Mussoorie
While having so much fun on the en-route journey Delhi to Mussoorie. We reached the queen of hills Mussoorie. Our camp was near to Gandhi chowk. Reached around 01:00 Pm
Recommendation:-
Often make the prior booking of the hotel room and camp in Mussoorie. Because here season and the offseason doesn’t work due to the closest places from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
Price for Camping in Mussoorie
We had already made the prior reservation of two camps for us as we were four people together. They had tents available on that time on the quad and double sharing basis. The price we had paid for each camp was 600 per day without any meal due to the low season. Other than the camp price was 1800 without any meal included.
The only camping near mall road of Mussoorie
It was just sole camping in the of 2018 in Mussoorie near mall road, and nowadays, you can get two or three more options for the stay in camp. The rest all are hotels and resorts for the stay for the traveller.
Take a glance at the facilities in Camp
We had gone down towards a valley approx 500 meters from the roadside through the stairs for our camp. Really I never forget the location we had chosen because it’s like you open the curtain of your tent and see the world’s best natural beauty and essence.
Interior facilities
It was like the attached washroom with my camp but totally made separated in behind the camp. They had provided us with an outstanding quality of blankets and television. I had never expected television in the camp.
Food services
There was no space available for the cooking and restaurant area near the campsite. So we had to go upstairs for breakfast at the owner’s shop.
Relaxing mode on for 5 hours
We all got tired due to early morning drive from Delhi to Mussoorie and just wanted to relax, and we’d slept around 5 hours, and when we awakened, everything was dark outside; hardly any lamps were lighting, and the mall road was looking beautiful at night in the lighting from the camp.
Awaked around 08:00 Pm
Mall road about to close
We all wanted to see the mall road of Mussoorie at night time as well. That is why we all moved to the mall road. It was about to close. Because we reached a little late at around 9 pm. However, we enjoyed it there a lot.
The glory of Dehradun from Mussoorie mall road
Once we reached the Gandhi chowk on the mall road. We found the night glory of Dehradun. There was a sitting station at the mall road where you can relax after wandering on the mall. If you just see the opposite of the mall road, there will be a complete Dehradun in light at night, which looks terrific.
Explore mall road and shops
Mussoorie mall road is quite longer than other hill station mall road. Here I found several shops of souvenirs, wooden clocks, artificial jewellery, wooden keyrings, Bengals for ladies, Hawkers selling Pani puri, restaurants, etc.
There were several shops where you can buy the products mentioned above. But there is a single shop in Mussoorie where you can find all the unique products and I would recommend this shop during a plan to Mussoorie trip. I had also shared the image below. It’s famous with the name of U.p Cottage & village. Here you can buy household products and artificial stuff too.
Dinner at the Kalsang restaurant when I plan to Mussoorie trip
There are several cafes and restaurants in Mussoorie where you can make your tummy happy. But one of my favourites is kalsang. As I am a Chinese food lover and kalsang provides the same. If you are planning the first time visiting kalsang I would recommend you order the Veg or chicken momos. It’s delicious at the kalsang.
Location:- The Mussoorie mall road survey colony
Rest overnight at the campsite
The Pleasant hills Sunrise
I had been travelling for the last few years, and I knew if I awake early in the morning to watch the sunrise. It will make my day.
Awaked early but explore something new
I awoke around 05:45 am to see the sunrise, but when I removed the curtain of my tent. The weather I saw was different from my perception.
Clouds in the valley of Mussoorie
It was a meaningless scenery ahead of me. Because of clouds coming down to the valley and everything was looking gorgeous. The whole night there was rain in Mussoorie and morning time when it’s closed after that clouds came down.
Stood up at the balcony for approx half an hour
I kept taking the pictures of the valley from the different angels and didn’t go inside the tent because I had to see the sunrise as well.
Sunrises
Approximately after half an hour, the sunrise between the mountains and all clouds went out. The weather of Mussoorie I cannot explain to you. Because again, I had seen the same weather on George Everest.
Read the complete story; there are several best memories I have shared below with you.
Now we all were ready to visit George Everest, cloud’s end, company garden, and kempty waterfall before we went to the owner’s shop for breakfast.
Can’t forget the taste of butter toast
I don’t know why or it’s with me only. When I travelled to the hill station. I love every food, maybe it’s fresh, or the cooking style is different. Well, I will consider it next time. If you know the answer, please let me know in the comments section.
Crispy and Delicious
I usually take two butter toast for breakfast. However, I took six there. It was too crispy, and I love to dip the buttered toast in the milk tea. Do you also do the same? Share it with me.
The house of Sir George Everest in Mussoorie
Now we were heading towards our first tourist place, Sir George Everest House. Which is built on a high altitude? It was the earlier laboratory of Sir George Everest after his death; the area came under the tourism department.
It’s the highest point in Mussoorie, where I had fun a lot while reaching there because it was raining all the time when we drove to George Everest.
Recommendation:-
If you are not perfect on hills drive. I would recommend you to avoid driving by own for the clouds end l, George Everest, and all tibba. You can hire a local taxi driver or vehicle as well.
Panoramic Scenery at George Everest Mussoorie
I had never been to a place like a Sir George Everest house earlier. It was on the top of Mussoorie and about 10 km from the mall road. The area has a panoramic view, and visibility is also very impressive.
Doon valley from George Everest
We were able to see the doon valley from the George Everest and Algar river valley.
Myth or Reality About George Everest House
Some local people say that it’s a haunted place and few boys had raped a girl over here and she died. After that, the girl soul wanders in that area.
Nobody stops at George Everest after 6 pm, whether it’s a local food staff or any traveller.
However, camping near George Everest.
I had seen camping near George Everest. It was just 500 meters or 1 km maximum from us and I was extremely confused to understand that it is a haunted place or a myth only.
Maggi and Hot Tea at George Everest
There were small stalls at George Everest where you can eat the boiled eggs, Omelette, Maggi and tea.
Head towards Clouds End
After that, George Everest, we all went to the cloud’s end. It also looks like a dangerous area and a dense forest. I was feeling like a hunter.
Recommendation:-
If you plan to Mussoorie trip, Please forget to visit the clouds valley and make sure. If anyone is suffering from knees pain and heart disease they should the place because of its on height and they have to do little trek.
Don’t be confused in names.
Clouds end and cloud end resort both are two different names, and we had parked our vehicle out of the resort and took an entry of INR 20 per person.
Sound in clouds end
The cloud’s end is also known as the echo park. Where if you will speak loudly at the top point. Your voice will vibrate due to an isolated place. We all had tried, and it’s true. You should also try it.
Small trek to clouds end. clouds end.
We did approx. Half km trek to reach an echo point. You can find the video of that; just click on the link.
Kempty waterfall in Mussoorie
It was about three o clock, and we had to visit the kempty waterfall and Company Garden. But the company gets closed after 7 pm in the summer. So we moved from the Clouds end to the kempty waterfall and enjoyed a small gondola ride to reach the kempty waterfall.
Height of Kempty waterfall
Kempty waterfall lies in the ram gaon in Tehri Garhwal, which is 13 km away from the Gandhi Chowk, Mussoorie. The water is coming down from 40 ft, and streaming in five cascades.
Cloakroom for accessories
We reached the Kempty waterfall premises and first change the clothes to get into the pool and put our accessories into the cloakroom. The vendor had charged us INR 50 For each clock room and gave us a key to the cloakroom.
Clothes for Kempty Fall
I had travelled several times to Mussoorie. That is why I knew what all the things and clothes required for the poolside. Otherwise, I would have to take clothes on rent.
Enjoyed the activities in the poolside
The water of the pool remains child because it’s coming through direct rivers and when we get down into the pool. The complete body feels like it is freezing. But after a second, our body accumulates the temperature of the water.
Restaurant or small stall for food
There are several shops where you can enjoy the meal as you want because everything is available there but at high rates.
The company garden was closing
After taking a bath inside the pool, we all changed clothes and moved to our next spot, Company Garden. The garden has different beautiful species of flowers and fountain areas. Where people can sit and relax. We just went inside and had to come back in half an hour due to closing time.
Everyone was hungry
We all were travelling since morning and even skipped our lunch. So now we wanted to have something special about Mussoorie.
Lovely omelette in Mussoorie
Mussoorie has several unique eateries, but one of them is a Lovely omelette center. It’s as much famous Mussoorie that people were standing in a long line to eat the omelette. He serves many kinds of eggs and is awarded by several celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar (Also has his own penthouse in Mussoorie) Indra Gandhi. The restaurant has been running since 1918 during the time of Britishers. I would personally recommend if you plan a trip to Mussoorie and love to eat the nonveg.
Still Hungry
We wanted to eat more because we were hungry a lot and asked a local shopkeeper for Punjabi food. He suggested we go to Neelam Restaurant in Kurli Bazaar, and the suggestion was perfect for us.
Neelam Restaurant Since 1949
Because the restaurant is not only economical, but the food was also delicious. We all had taken different items like Shahi Paneer rice, Rajma Rice, Palak paneer. Trust me, it’s worth it if you visit this restaurant. I found this one of the economical restaurants in Mussoorie during I planned to Mussoorie trip.
Back to camp via camelback road
We all were exhausted and decided to go back to camp via camelback roads. The road is quite famous in Mussoorie. Here local people come early in the morning for a walk and fresh air. The way received a name after a hump rock statue on the backside of the road.
Time to Say Good-Bye to Mussoorie
After 2 days stay in the queen of hills. We never want to go back home. Because we knew that not going to get the same weather and pollution-free feeling. We had packed our bags and went to breakfast.
Route Map – Mussoorie to Delhi via Rishikesh
Mussoorie ——-Dehradun——–Rishikesh——-Haridwar via Ji National Park —–Roorkee—-Khatauli——-Jani——-Madaula—–Delhi
Back to home via Rishikesh And Haridwar
We were having breakfast and thinking about the places we had visited. Suddenly I suggested going home via Rishikesh and Haridwar. Because this is gonna be a different route to reach Delhi but till Roorkee only.
Mussoorie -Rishikesh to Lachhiwala
We had kept luggage into the car and boarded for our new place. While travelling Mussoorie to Rishikesh, we had stopped our vehicle at the Lachhiwala picnic spot. It’s a local picnic spot where you can enjoy the park and the water canal.
Rishikesh – Haridwar – Har Ki Pauri
After lachhiwala park, we head towards Haridwar via Rishikesh. We didn’t stop the vehicle at the Rishikesh, but I had described that in my other blog. Rishikesh to Haridwar is just 25 km away via Rajaji National park.
Har ki Pauri at Haridwar
Haridwar is one of the famous pilgrims. Here every day plenty of devotees come to bathe in the Ganges river and the Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. We had parked our vehicle in the parking and from there approx 1 km we walked to Har ki Pauri via a bridge. First, we had bought a small bottle to carry the holy Ganges water and then went to the main Har Ki Pauri for the darshan.
